1 hour of laser cutting costs £5, and you must pay in advance at estore.arts.ac.uk. Book the laser cutter for cutting or engraving your design. You can't cut neoprene or PVC at EAST BANK, and must know the fibre content and coating of your fabric/material to be allowed to cut/engrave. Your design must be ready and saved as an .ai file on a memory stick before your session. Remember to bring masking tape! Students can book up to 3x 1 hour laser cutting sessions per week - cancellations must be done at least 24 hours before the session.

Materials
We can cut and engrave any suitable fabric and leather. We can not cut neoprene, foams, plastics or plastic coated materials that contain any of the following: Polyurethane (PUR), Polymethylenoxide (POM), Polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE), any materials containing Chlorine and Vinyl such as Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) and materials containing acrylic, epoxy or phenolic resins as they produce harmful chemicals when used with the laser.
If your material is likely to contain any of these chemicals we will ask you to obtain an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and will then be able to tell if it is safe to cut your material. Also, we cannot cut Latex. Latex is natural, so cutting it is not toxic but unfortunately stains the laser bed badly and will stick to any material that is cut after you have finished.
Once you had your Laser cutting Induction you can book your sessions up to 2 weeks in advance and up to 3 sessions per week.
If our Laser Cutter is too small or can’t cut your materials, check in the document section for a list of other Laser Cutters.
