Ecoflex rubbers are platinum-catalysed silicones that are versatile and easy to use. Mixing ratio is 1A:1B by weight or volume and cured at room temperature with negligible shrinkage. Low viscosity ensures easy mixing and de-airing.

Cured rubber is very soft, very strong and very “stretchy”, stretching many times its original size without tearing and will rebound to its original form without distortion. Ecoflex rubbers are water white translucent and can be colour pigmented with silicone pigments. They are suitable for a variety of applications including making prosthetic appliances, cushioning for orthotics and special effects applications (especially in animatronics where repetitive motion is required).

 

*CURE INHIBITION*

Great care must be taken when handling and mixing all addition-cured silicone systems. All the mixing tools should be clean and constructed in materials which do not interfere with the curing mechanism. The cure of the rubber can be inhibited by the presence of compounds of nitrogen, sulphur, phosphorus and arsenic; organotin catalysts and PVC stabilisers; epoxy resin catalysts and even contact with materials containing these substances e.g. moulding clays, sulphur vulcanised rubbers, condensation cure silicone rubbers, some printed plastics, onion and garlic.

 

- Materials can only be purchased from eStore by CSM students, on the day of their booking, to be used in the casting workshop at L008.

 

- Students are not permitted to purchase materials from eStore for use outside of the workshop.

 

- Technicians should be consulted before purchasing materials from the eStore.

 

- Please show proof of purchase receipt to the technicians before collecting the purchased materials.
