The Hand: Emotions, Embodiment, IdentityInfo Location Attendee Categories Event Information
DescriptionA 2-day conference exploring interdisciplinary practice and research relating to the human hand, and all it can tell us about our humanity. Across history, the hand has variously been used to idolise heroes, typify Otherness, and connect the material world with the supernatural. In the present, we store data behind fingerprint security, and communicate through touch screens, typing and swiping to initiate connection. In an era of deceptive artificial intelligence, hands remain challenging for AI to recreate, gesturing to human talent and authenticity. The Hand conference programme features 2 days of discussion panels, hands-on workshops, including a special workshop with textile artist Ruth Singer, and Tactile Subjects: a Plenary with Professor Peter Capuano (University of Nebraska-Lincoln), Dr Sarah Jackson (Northumbria University), and photographer Caroline Seymour. Location is LCF (East Bank) Room 117, 405 & 406. https://www.thevictorianhand.uk/conference
