Course Information

Mandarin, Arts and Culture

This course is only for students who have followed the Mandarin, Arts & Culture - Beginner course.

Each class begins with a presentation given by your teacher, introducing you to an aspect of the country’s art and culture.

The language learning comes from this topic with listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. By the end of the course you will not only have a grasp of a modern language but you will also be able to use this skill in an interesting and practical way.

Classes take place at our High Holborn building, approx. 3-minutes’ walk from Holborn Underground station in central London. They take place one evening per week between 6pm and 8:30pm.

Course Description

Our evening language courses are built around an arts and culture context. You will explore a variety of topics including architecture, cuisine, culture, design, fashion, society and more. Each course features a British Museum experience, with a unique lecture followed by free admission to an exhibition. An exciting event on international cuisine is also included.

Over the 8 weeks of the Mandarin Beginner Continuation course, you will build on the foundations that were laid down in Term one and be given more opportunity to put these to practise. You will gain more confidence in talking about yourself, your interests and your immediate surroundings. You will improve your interactional, listening, speaking and writing skills through deepening the language you have already covered on the course. You will improve your use on Pinyin and your ability to recognise and write Chinese characters as well as practise Chinese watercolour painting. There is a focus on improving your communication skills (both in speaking and writing) in Mandarin.
