Japanes, Arts and Culture

Japanese Elementary 1 - Tuesday Evening

Each class includes a presentation given by your teacher, introducing you to an aspect of the country’s art and culture.

The language learning is related to this topic and includes listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. 

Classes take place at our High Holborn building, approx. 3-minutes’ walk from Holborn Underground station in central London. They take place one evening per week between 6pm and 8:30pm.

The maximum number of students attending each class is 15.

Course Description

Our evening language courses are built around an arts and culture context. You will explore a variety of topics including architecture, cuisine, culture, design, fashion, society and more.

Over the 8 weeks of the Japanese Elementary Part One course, you will:

  • learn about different aspects of Japanese Arts and Culture such as calligraphy, street food, artists, forms, origami and more
  • refresh your knowledge of basic forms that you should be familiar with in Japanese
  • explore descriptive forms to talk about people in more depth
  • be able to give your opinions about different topics related or art and culture
  • learn functional skills such as giving and receiving instructions and directions.
  • Explore more complex forms and structures in Japanese such as the conditional and noun modification
  • Improve your listening, speaking skills through dialogues, pair work and group work
  • Review and improve your casual Japanese
  • be given guidance on study skills (e.g. dictionary forms of verbs)

There is a focus on oral communication and pronunciation as well as using language for functional and practical purposes.

Social Programme events and activities will be announced on a termly basis, in line with the topics in the syllabus and your chosen language of study.
