Japanese, Arts & Culture

This course is only for students who have followed the Japanese, Arts & Culture - Beginner course.

Each class begins with a presentation given by your teacher, introducing you to an aspect of the country’s art and culture.

The language learning comes from this topic with listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. By the end of the course you will not only have a grasp of a modern language but you will also be able to use this skill in an interesting and practical way.

Classes take place at our High Holborn building, approx. 3-minutes’ walk from Holborn Underground station in central London. They take place one evening per week between 6pm and 8:30pm.

Course Description

Our evening language courses are built around an arts and culture context. You will explore a variety of topics including architecture, cuisine, culture, design, fashion, society and more.
Each course features a British Museum experience, with a unique lecture followed by free admission to an exhibition. An exciting event on international cuisine is also included. 

                                                                                                                                                                                     Over the 8 weeks of the Japanese Beginner Continuation course, you will draw on what you have learnt in term one to deeper your abilities, skills and vocabulary in this level. You will gain more confidence in talking about yourself and be introduced to asking and answering more complex questions on familiar topics as well as functional language and vocabulary related to food, the city, travelling, professions, leisure and your home.
You will improve your interactional, listening and speaking skills, improve your Japanese writing skills, further practise writing with a brush pen, be trained in recognising familiar words and phrases concerning you, your family, and your surroundings, all in the context of the topics outlined above. There is a focus of the programme on oral communication and pronunciation as well as using language for functional and practical purposes.
