German, Arts and Culture

German Beginner 1 - Wednesday Evening

Each class includes a presentation given by your teacher, introducing you to an aspect of the country’s art and culture.

The language learning is related to this topic and includes listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. 

Classes take place at our High Holborn building, approx. 3-minutes’ walk from Holborn Underground station in central London. They take place one evening per week between 6pm and 8:30pm.

The maximum number of students attending each class is 15.

Course Description

Our evening language courses are built around an arts and culture context. You will explore a variety of topics including architecture, cuisine, culture, design, fashion, society and more.


Over the 8 weeks of the German Beginner One course, you will:


  • listen to simple dialogues and be introduced to how to greet others and introduce yourself
  • learn to make simple requests including ordering food and drink and making your way around town
  • explore vocabulary for each of the topics above and practice dialogues to use the language and activities associated with each
  • be given the opportunity to read simple texts and write your own. Through these text and listening tasks you will be introduced to the structure of the language
  • learn numbers, days of the week, professions, countries, colours and other expression relating to your surroundings
  • learn noun and adjective forms including the impact of gender, and present, past and perfect tenses
  • learn about German cuisine, artists, culture, fashion and architecture

 There is a focus on the programme on oral communication and pronunciation as well as using the language for functional and practical purposes.

Social Programme events and activities will be announced on a termly basis, in line with the topics in the syllabus and your chosen language of study.
