French, Arts & Culture

This course is only for students who have followed the French, Arts & Culture - Beginner course.

Each class begins with a presentation given by your teacher, introducing you to an aspect of the country’s art and culture.

The language learning comes from this topic with listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. By the end of the course you will not only have a grasp of a modern language but you will also be able to use this skill in an interesting and practical way.

Classes take place at our High Holborn building, approx. 3-minute walk from Holborn Underground station in Central London. They take place one evening per week between 6pm and 8:30pm.

Course Description

Our evening language courses are built around an arts and culture context. You will explore a variety of topics including architecture, cuisine, culture, design, fashion, society and more. Each course features a British Museum experience, with a unique lecture followed by free admission to an exhibition. An exciting event on international cuisine is also included.

Over the 8 weeks of the French Beginner Continuation course, you will build on your ability to talk about familiar topics as well as gain the confidence to talk about less familiar topics. You will be introduced to asking an answering more complex questions as well as deepening your vocabulary and functional language skills.

You will work continue to work on your interactional, listening and speaking skills, learn to recognise less familiar words and phrases concerning you, your family, your surroundings. When reading and listening, you will work on understanding  more complex structures and being given the opportunity to use them yourself. There is a focus of the programme on oral communication and pronunciation as well as using language for functional and practical purposes.
